Introduction
This course is the final in the semi professional level course program. Students undertaking this course will have successfully completed Courses 1 and 2 of the semi professional level programs. Alternatively, intending students will have demonstrated through previous training and / or experience they have a sufficient level of competence to cope with the course content.
Participants will engage and experiment in Fashion, Wedding, Portrait, Product, Food, Architecture, Journalism /Documentary, Editorial /Advertising and Landscape photography. They will undertake a series of workshops and will be required to complete projects in the aforementioned genres. The Course also includes a component of a series of presentations by guest lecturers. Semi Professional - Course 3 requires the participant to encapsulate all outcomes of the previous courses, develop skills and techniques that communicate their creative and technical maturity. An additional requirement is the completion of project briefs. Upon successful course completion, students will be sufficiently skilled to begin recruiting commercial photographic assignments and engage with industry guilds.
Successful completion of this course is essential for those individuals aspiring to enter the professional photography community and to model their photographic direction towards the professional level courses of study into to specific genre. It is also a pre requisite to undertaking the mentoring program offered in the professional level courses. This course is also ideal for photographic assistance, career changes and those visual creatives seeking to extend their photographic craft.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Begin recruitment of commercial photography assignments in their area of expertise.
- Discuss higher or further education study options if required.
- Apply for membership to relevant industry guilds
- Discuss photography orientated career objectives and outcomes
- Analyse a brief and communicate effectively with clients
Teaching Strategies
The Course is delivered through a series of 8 x 3hr 6:30pm – 9:30pm sessions. The sessions are practical practise orientated and include a mix of guest lecturers, projects and shoot workshops. A typical class will consist of open critique of assignment work, tutorial discussion of projects and practical workshops. Each week students will need to undertake pre allocated, practical assignment work, including experimental projects. This Course will conclude with a 6 hr - 10 am – 4 pm Saturday workshop in practical photography. Participants will also be required to attend an evening location shoot under tutor supervision.
Specialist Facilities and Equipment
This unit will be delivered in a range of formats, including studio and location environments. Weekly critiques will be conducted for each participant in group and individual modes.
Participants Equipment Requirements
Participants are expected to have access to the required equipment to satisfactorily complete their major project.

Assessment
Assessment will be conducted by way of final folio presentation and participation in group and individual discussion groups. Criteria will be provided at the beginning of the Course and weekly critique and mentoring sessions will count toward the participants overall score.
Entry Requirements
Participants must have successfully competed semi professional course 1 and or 2. New participants may apply to the Institute for exemption by completing the application for RPL.
