Welcome to the professional level programs   Courses in Melbourne & Sydney

Course 1 – Medium and Large Format
Professional Course 1 advanced cameras,  is a comprehensive study in advanced camera operations.  It is primarily focused on large and medium format hardware.  Participants will have been introduced to medium format in semi professional studies however, the technical demands of larger format cameras require a concentrated course.  Participants will be tutored in the characteristics of shift lenses, large format exposure calculations, tilts and swings, shifts /focusing and exposure laws.  Participants will explore and experiment with digital and films backs and the superiority of larger format cameras with architecture, product, food, and advertising genres.  This course will be delivered principally by tutoring in studio.   This instruction is supplemented by “on location” activity to further unpack the complexities of photographic technique.  Participants will achieve increased dexterity in professional standards.   This Course provides an excellent platform for progression from semi professional studies. Participants with a vision for landscape, product and architectural photography will find it invaluable.  This course is delivered over 8 weeks plus a Saturday workshop.

Course 2 – Commercial Mentoring
Course 2 is our unique commercial mentoring program.  After successfully completing semi professional - introduction to commercial. Individuals will choose a major project at the beginning of the course and be mentored through that project, building to an industry standard and genre specific, portfolio.  The Course requires the participant to encapsulate all the successful outcomes of the previous courses, develop skills and techniques that communicate their creative and technical maturity.  Upon successful completion of this course graduates will be equipped to be able to begin recruiting commercial photographic assignments and engage with industry guilds.  This course is essential for those wishing to enter the professional photography community.  Its extended study period and mentoring philosophy helps ensure the participant makes a successful transition from student to practising professional.

Course 3 – Art and Figure
The aim of this Course is twofold.  The first is to introduce participants to a framework for reading visual images in terms of the social and ideological dimensions and consideration of how they might be interpreted by others.  Images will be examined in terms of the ‘content’ they construct, the relationship they establish and their internal organisation.  Theories of the gaze and the practise of looking, will be considered emphasising that images do not simply reflect the world around us, but actively construct it for us.  Secondly, this Course will explore the basic concepts of the history and theory of art.  It will also provide introductory knowledge and appreciation of art history, briefly surveying the Western historical canon, and focusing on twentieth century art and design. Participants will be encouraged to appreciate the historical depth of contemporary visual culture and understand photography’s dynamic relationship with historical visual media.  This course is delivered over 6 weeks and concludes with a Saturday fine art shooting workshop.

Course 4 – Business Practice
Course 4 Photographic business marketing explores the needs for Business plans, financing, marketing and effective communication strategies.  Participants are tutored in business advertising, industry associations and pricing of their products.  Copyright and integrity of work is examined in the ever changing digital environments.  Participants will gain knowledge of contracts, term and conditions of supply, taxation and how to present their folio work to sell their services.   This course is delivered over 6 weeks and at the conclusion of the course participants will have a working document and strategy to successfully launch their photographic careers.
