Introduction
Course 1 program in Digital Darkroom is the first of two programs offered by the institute.  In this program participants will undertake 4 lessons in using Adobe Creative Suite 4 for image processing. Course 1 is essential for beginners.  It provides an ideal introduction to digital darkroom  and enables participants to begin using their digital software for image manipulation.

Course 1 is a pre requisite requirement for Course 2.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit participants will be able to:

  • Understand digital asset management using CS4 software
  • Use Adobe RAW is their primary processing software.
  • Perform image retouching in photoshop
  • Discuss and apply screen calibration for image manipulation

Course 1 – Syllabus/Timetable
Week One: Understanding CS4 and Digital Asset Management  
Week Two: Adobe RAW and making adjustments before photoshop 
Week Three: Retouching using photoshop
Week Four: Review and screen calibration  

Teaching Strategies
Course 1 is delivered through a series of 4 x 3hrs 6:30pm – 9:30pm workshops.  A typical class will be of 3 hours duration consisting of open critique of assignment work and discussion of techniques, followed by a workshop presenting new material and discussion on the practical application of  materials including demonstrations of functionalities.  Each week participants will be required to undertake practical assignment work including experimental projects. 

Facilities and Equipment
This Course is delivered in a lecture classroom or studio.  The tutor will present to each class using visual aids and demonstrations of digital camera hardware. Students receive their login for the online LMS where they can upload their profiles, connect and share work with all members of the student community.

Participants Equipment Requirements
Participants will be expected to have their own laptop with licensed Adobe CS4 and the required RAW plug in.  Participants are required to bring 100 images created in RAW files to work on during the 4 workshops.  A list of requirements will be emailed to each student upon enrolment.

Assessment
Assessment will be conducted through review of weekly assignments.  On successful completion of Course 1 , students will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and be invited to enrol for Course 2.

No prior photography or digital darkroom knowledge is required. You may enrol into this program via the enrolment form which is available from the website or by phoning the Institute on 1300 64 66 44.
