Introduction
Course 3 is a dedicated course in the use of on and off camera flash techniques. This course guides the student through TTL and Manual flash modes and further explains the use of high speed sync, bouncing flash, using flash as a fill light, dragging the shutter techniques and rear curtain sync applications.
This course also enables students to balance their flash with ambient light and to use flash as both a primary and secondary light source.
Course 3 is a pre requisite requirement for the Intermediate level programs.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this Course participants will be able to:
- Produce quality images using multiple flash exposure techniques
- Utilise the techniques of bouncing flash and flash diffusion techniques
- Make educated decisions regarding fill flash and produce a series properly exposed images utilising flash as a secondary light source.
- Understand advanced flash exposure techniques
- Understand the importance of compositional and subject elements, within an image. Begin ‘reading’ images.
Course 2 – Syllabus/Content
Week One: Introduction to on camera dedicated flash units TTL & Manual Modes
Week Two: Bounce, fill, high speed sync, shutter drag, rear curtain sync and balancing flash with
ambient light.
Week Three: Practical class on week 1 & 2 applications
Teaching Strategies
Course 3 is delivered through a series of 3 x 3hr 6:30pm – 9:30pm mix of lectures and practical classes supported by visual aids, quality course notes and assignment critique.
Specialist Facilities and Equipment
This course is delivered in a photographic studio and at pre determined photographic locations. The tutor will present to each class using visual aids. Students receive their login for the online LMS where they can upload their profiles, connect and share work with all members of the student community and retrieve their course notes and materials. Participants Equipment Requirements
Participant will need to have :-
- DSLR camera and lens, dedicated flash unit for their camera body
Assessment
Assessment will be conducted by way of weekly assignments. Upon successful completion of course 3, students will receive a certificate and be invited to enrol for intermediate Course programs.
Entry Requirements
Students must have successfully completed course 1, “ Introduction to DSLR Photography”. New students may apply to the Institute for exemption by completing the application for RPL.
